a not so white Christmas

This was Oz's first Christmas.
He enjoyed opening gifts more than Ty.
What baby doesn't like paper and the noise it makes?

Grammy got the boys a really cool tool bench.
Although Oz cannot play with it like Ty, he enjoys chewing on the accessories.

mommy & Ty

Merry Christmas to our two adorable boys.
We are so blessed to have you in our family.
Thanks for making us smile, laugh, and love.
We love you so much!

seven months

I am seven months old and weigh almost 25 pounds. That's right, I am a growing boy. I still wear size 4 diapers, but I now wear 18 month clothing. Mommy and daddy think I will catch up to Ty pretty soon. I smile and laugh a lot, especially when I am tickled. I sit up all by myself and love to play with my nesting cups. I am so lucky to have a big brother who likes sharing his toys with me. I still take three naps a day and sleep better than ever at night; upon occasion, I give mommy a long span (6-8 hours) of rest. I sometimes roar like a lion cub and click my tongue. I prefer to roll to my tummy when placed on my back. I am a happy chunky monkey!

happy turkey day

The boys and I went to Idaho for Thanksgiving for two weeks. It was nice to get away and have a break from doing the daily tasks that come with being a mom of two young boys. Allan was planning to come up the day before Thanksgiving, but instead showed up early Tuesday morning. What a pleasant surprise! I was so happy to see him. I love him with all my heart.

Though it's not turkey, it's still yummy.

We took the boys trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

Family Time

We went to the zoo today. Ty loved seeing the animals, but was not so excited about riding the carousel. He wanted nothing to do with riding on an animal, so we sat on a bench. It was extremely hot outside, but fun to be out doing something with the family.

Oz is growing so fast. He is almost 6 weeks old.

our new addition

Yesterday, I began feeling contractions at 7:20am. They were 5-7 minutes apart which made me think this could be the day I go into labor. I went about taking care of Ty and keeping busy as usual. I either tried to convince myself that our second little boy wouldn't be born 11 days early or perhaps I just wanted more time to get things done before he arrived. I decided to begin recording the frequency of my contractions at 8:30am. I went about my Monday morning routine (changing sheets, washing laundry, cleaning the bathrooms, etc.). Is this typical of me or what? I finished packing my hospital bag, took care of Ty and completed some miscellanuous tasks. Suprisingly, Ty took an hour and a half nap in the morning, which allowed me time to be a little more productive in case the contractions continued.

I informed Allan that I was having contractions, but I wasn't sure if he needed to come home. Around 11:30am I decided he should probably leave work so we could go to the hospital. When he got home, I was not in any rush. He ate lunch while I finished some laundry. I knew we needed to head for the hospital because the pain was becoming more intense. At this point, I had steady contractions for five hours, so I knew it wasn't a false alarm. We arrived at the hospital around 12:40pm, stopping by the doctor's office on the way to let them know that we might not be making our 4:30pm appointment because I thought I was in labor. Who was I kidding? I knew I was in labor.

We were escorted to a delivery room where they put me on monitors and got me situated to check where I was at. I was dialted to a 4 and 80% effaced. A week prior, I was dialted to a 2 and 80% effaced, so there was some change. The nurse called the doctor, and they admitted me. If there was any doubt in my mind, it became clear that this was the real thing; I was having this baby.

At 1:50pm the doctor broke my water, and I received an epidural at 2:15pm. Unfortunately, this experience was much different than when I had Ty. I felt more pain this time as the epidural was being administered. I never received complete relief. In fact, I was in a lot of pain. I was progressing so quickly (dilated to an 8 and 100% effaced by 3:00pm), that there was no time for adjusting the epidural. I was able to breathe through my contractions, but I feared the delivery. I was not just feeling pressure; the pain was intense. I pushed three times on my first contraction, and he was out by the end of my second contraction. Less than 3 hours at the hospital, our "little" bundle of joy was born at 3:19pm. He weighed 8lbs. 1oz. and was 21.5 in. long. Who knew he was going to be so much bigger than Ty (6lbs. 8oz. and 20 in. long)?

Next came the task of choosing a name. I knew Allan's preference, but I wanted to be sure to choose a name that I liked, and one that fit him.

The final decision was made this morning...Oz Jonah

Mother's Day

It was great having my mom in town for Mother's Day. I love having her close; I just wish she lived closer than 5 hours away. Thanks for being such an amazing mom! You continue to teach me so much each day. I love you!

I love being a mom! Ty is such a good little boy. I love being home with him to watch all the new things he discovers; he certainly keeps me on my toes. Having such a high spirited little guy is a lot of work, but so worth it. His fun personality keeps us entertained. I am excited to welcome another boy into our family.

Til We Meet Again

Today was a bitter-sweet day. Allan's mom's funeral brought closure and was a beautiful reminder of life after this. Though time never prepares you for the loss and heartache of losing a loved one, I know she is much better off and is no longer suffering. She passed away on 2 May 2011 after 16 years of battling cancer. She was such an example to me. I will always admire her strength, faith, love of the gospel, endurance, great love for all, and especially her positive attitude. I love you mom!

Happy Easter

A cool toy from Grammy

We couldn't resist the big teddy bear; my boys love it

Ty had a blast crushing the eggs
and dropping them into the color

Ty and Allan were sick today, but we tried to make it a special day nonetheless. When I was growing up, it was a tradition to look for our hidden Easter baskets, so we will try that next year. Ty was fascinated with opening all the candy, so we had to put it aside.

20 months

Our little guy is growing up so fast.
Like all toddlers, he is good entertainment.

Ty likes to put blankets and stuffed animals inside
his bucket of blocks and then sit in it.
That has to be more comfortable than sitting on hard blocks.

He also loves the vacuum!
He learned the sign for vacuum and says "vac."

San Diego

We went to San Diego to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday.
Here are some things we did:

went to the beach

watched Ty have fun play
in the sand & water

visited the zoo

Ty spent most of his time
on daddy's shoulders, a much
better view than in his stroller

took walks by the beach

visited the Hotel del Coronado
